As part of our monthly fundraising workshop series, the Dtec Ventures team conducted a session on a basic, yet critical component of fundraising, the Pitch Deck.

For Founders who are looking for funding, we can’t stress enough how important and essential the Pitch Deck is. Think of it as your CV to invite investors to take a closer look into your startup. And just like a CV, you need to put in key elements about your business – not too much that it becomes confusing but just enough to pique an investor’s curiosity. The idea and content must be articulated and organized in a way that it tells a compelling story to drive interest from investors to potentially call you in for an in-person pitch.

It may be a basic element for fundraising but based on our experience, we often see that it is the basic elements that are overlooked by many. You’d be surprised how many Pitch Decks we’ve seen over the years that have missing key slides and information, content with incoherent storytelling and unclear USP, and shows an overall lack of attention to detail. So, we set out to share our insights and educate founders on how to build an effective Pitch Deck for investors.

It’s our exciting and cool new space located in the recently opened Dubai Digital Park. The discussion was led by our Senior Portfolio Manager, Daniel dos Reis. Daniel stressed on the importance and relevance of the Pitch Deck, broke down the anatomy of Pitch Deck and shared a list of tips to make an effective pitch.

The session was well received by entrepreneurs who joined the workshop, who raised some interesting questions as well as suggestions as potential topics for upcoming workshops.

Now that we’ve got the Pitch Deck done, it’s time to bring the story to life when you pitch it in front of your investor. Up next, the Art of Pitching in March 2020.
