Series: It’s Time to Get Pitch Perfect Part I: So what is a pitch deck?

In our “Pitch Perfect” series of blog posts, we will be looking at how to create the perfect pitch. Our first covers the “what and the why” behind the pitch deck.

It all starts with your goal: Namely, the goal of your pitch deck is to provide a brief yet compelling overview of your idea or venture.

It needs to clearly communicate a story – and that story is your idea, your team and the opportunity.

A pitch deck is doing its job when it gets investors interested, piques their curiosity and leaves them wanting to learn more about your startup.

True, you won’t be able to answer every question in your pitch deck, but over the course of 10–15 pages you should focus on the most important aspects of your story.

Keep it simple, sharp, and to the point.

Think of it as a CV but specific for your venture. It’s there to help get you on an investor’s radar. Just keep in mind that this may be the only thing an investor sees of your startup before they make a decision – and that decision is whether to learn more about your startup or to pass up on this investment opportunity.

Their time and attention span is limited – so make sure your pitch deck stands out.
